Andrew Scheer Pants on Fire

Andrew Scheer is the leader of the Opposition in Canada, yet he finds the time to mislead his base almost every day. He has an unhealthy and seemingly pathological obsession with blaming PM Justin Trudeau (PMJT) for everything under the sun. As such, we started several blog posts dedicated entirely to Scheer’s #AlternativeFacts, obfuscations, misrepresentations, deflections and/or straight-up lies.

The Liberal Child Benefit helped lift 300,000 families out of poverty.

The difference between the Conservatives’ UCCB (Universal Child Care Benefit) and the Liberals’ CCB (Canada child benefit) is stark. The Conservative UCCB was universal and taxable even for low-income parents. The LIBs created a non-taxable but targeted CCB so that families in need with younger children received the full benefit which is why hundreds of thousands were lifted out of poverty.

The Conservative UCCB meant the average taxpayer would pay taxes for high-income families that didn’t need it. According to the PBO’s report on the Conservative UCCB, “the people benefiting the most from the feds’ boosted child benefits will be the ones whose child care costs are, effectively, $0.”

In fact, the “baby bonus”, as it was then called, was introduced by the Liberal government of William Lyon Mackenzie King after WWII (in 1945). Is this the behavior one expects of a grown man who wants to be PM or is Scheer obsessed with PMJT living in his mind rent free?

PMJT is not phasing out oil and gas: a blatant misrepresentation, and neither is he intentionally blocking projects. Scheer’s problem with PMJT is actually with himself: It’s about his own Party’s failure of not getting 2 pipelines to tidewater. See Prelude to Northern Gateway.

PMJT approved the Trans Mountain Pipeline (TMX) by Kinder Morgan and when they appeared ready to walk away from their own project, he bought the pipeline. After the Court ruled that the review process of TMX initiated by the Stephen Harper government was deficient (Harper failed to consult Indigenous communities), PMJT stepped in to rectify.

Mr Scheer needs to either admit his own government’s failure or sit down and shut up.
